The best translations are created in collaboration between the client and the translator. The translator is an expert in language and culture and the client in their own organisation and field.
As client, it is important that you:
- Define the goal: Who is the text intended to and what do you want to accomplish with it?
- Specify the style and tone of voice: Tell the translator in what style and tone of voice you want to communicate.
- Provide instructions: Provide the necessary instructions, answer the translator’s questions and give feedback on the translation.
A good translation conveys the message to the target audience as the client has intended. This often means, for example, localisation, i.e. taking account of the cultural and linguistic differences between the source and target languages.
